Walk in Bathtubs Helping Seniors Keep Their Indepenedence

December 31st, 2009
spa bath mat

As we age, we experience varying degrees of diminished physical capacity. For example, our joints do not move as smoothly, grip strength declines, auditory and visual abilities diminish. These changes begin after age 30 and slowly impose limits on our ability to respond to physiological demands, and ultimately to care for ourselves.

The degree of physiological loss and the presence or absence of disease are important considerations when designing and developing products and devices that may be of assistance to older people. It also is important to consider the effects of such losses or limits on an older person’s abilities to perform the tasks of daily living. Obviously, the degree of help needed by an older person varies depending on the type and severity of the condition.

Handicap accessible walk-in bathtubs provide seniors and disabled individuals with confidence and independence. Walk-in bathtubs have many features to help improve access and the bathing experience for the user. Fill time is a key factor when deciding on a walk in baths since the user is in the tub before it fills. Manufactures now offer different ”quick fill” systems that increase the flow of water and reduce filling time. Maintaining water temperature is also important. Grab rails are an important factor in the safety of a walk in bath tub. Having a slip resistant floor is also important while looking at a walk-in bathtub. Some walk in baths offer the option of a rubber mat to help improve grip. Some walk in baths can be fitted with a safety seat to help accessibility and use. Quick Drainage time is crucial as the user will be in the bath as it empties. If a bath takes to long to empty the user may suffer from the cold, especially if they are elderly. Some walk in baths can now be fitted with dual drainage systems that can half the time the bath takes to empty. Some walk-in bathtubs offer a hydrotherapy system which creates a Spa / Jacuzzi effect using jets mounted around the bath. These systems can be beneficially for some medical conditions or simply to ease aches and pains.

Creating a Relaxing Bathroom

December 27th, 2009

With the right decorations, you can turn your bathroom into a relaxing atmosphere to spend time in. No matter if you’re unwinding after a long day, or are rejuvenating on the weekend, your bathroom can be the best place to relax.

There are a number of ways to decorate your bathroom in order to obtain a relaxed feeling while you’re soaking in the tub. One way is to think about spa style, and how many spas around the world have decorated in order to relax customers.

For a spa-look, be sure to start with a clean bathroom. Often, bathrooms that are painted in bright colours, such as white or yellow, are good choices for walls. These colours bring in light and are soothing and comforting.

From there, be sure to find the accessories that are right for you. Baskets to hold products, a comfortable bath pillow, fluffy towels and scented candles are all ways to create a relaxing atmosphere in your bathroom.

In addition, pay close attention to lighting. Adding too much artificial light can often cause headaches and tension in some people. For this reason, try to use as much natural light as possible by drawing blinds and curtains back from windows.

Scents can also help make a room more relaxing. Scented candles, and finding the bath products that smell best on you are a great way to wind down through aromatherapy. For some, fruity scents are invigorating, but others might choose softer, floral scents as well.

Sound plays an important part in relaxation as well. Play your favourite relaxing music in order to calm down when you’re taking a bath or soothing shower. Be sure to keep music players away from the edge of tubs, as they pose a risk if they fall in water.

There are also a number of small changes that can be made to bathrooms in order to create a relaxing atmosphere. New bath mats, candles, toiletry holders and artwork can bring a fresh appearance to an older room.

Finding the right bath accessories is important when it comes time to decorate a relaxing atmosphere for your atmosphere. It’s important to think about what colours and accessories are appealing to you, in order to ensure that you’ll be relaxed in your new bathroom. No matter what products are appealing to you, there are a number of bath accessories that are sure to appeal to your own personal style.

Get your Man the Perfect Gift!

December 17th, 2009

It sounds so simple, but if you want to please your man then give him what he wants. First, you must realize what he would actually buy for himself and what he would actually use.

1. Sports Tickets- Ever been out to dinner and felt like you are competing with a TV for your man’s attention? Let’s face it. Your man would rather watch the game than hear about your friend’s failing love life. I’m not saying he doesn’t care about what you have to say, but he has his priorities—and for most men, sports are at the top. If your guy is a football fanatic, get him some NFL tickets. Maybe he prefers hockey? You can find some great deals on craigslist.org or eBay. People are always looking get rid of tickets last minute.

2. Electronics- If your guy is a gamer then he is craving Halo 3. Already have it? Get him a gift card to EB Games or GameStop. Is he a film buff? Spend some time searching IMDB.com for one of his favorite director’s first flicks. Ladies, this is a great way to impress your man. Scrounging up a rare movie from the 80’s will score you major points. Whether your man is a cinefile or audiophile, he will be realize and appreciate your scouring the planet his favorite artist’s early work—and you will be rewarded.

3. Adventure- Does he always complain about work? Maybe he needs a vacation. We all need the occasional escape to clear our heads. What better way then dashing off to a tropical island for a week? A little vacation can rejuvenate him and can also rekindle the flame that used to be a burning forest fire. Not a beach person? Book a long weekend at a cozy mountain lodge. There’s nothing like getting out on the slopes, cuddling by a fire, and drinking hot chocolate to cure those winter blues. What man can turn down an adventure?

4. Truck Accessories- I have a friend whose girlfriend got him a cold air intake for Christmas. At first I was a little confused, but then I thought, “Does she have a sister?” He was really into his car, and you could tell he loved the present—probably because he always let you know where he got it. I don’t think you can go wrong with an automotive accessory. From my 2-year-old nephew to my grandpa, men of all ages love trucks. If you are looking to drop a few bucks, consider getting him a nice set of rims or a full performance exhaust system. The loud growl that aftermarket parts add to his truck’s sound will surely get his testosterone pumping. But if you’re like me, and your pockets are running light around the holidays, you could get him a sturdy set of truck floor mats. They may not be exciting, but they are useful and he will appreciate that. At least they won’t be sitting in the back of his closet with the other hideous sweaters you picked out for him.

If all else fails swing by Victoria’s Secret, pick up the sexiest outfit you can find, cook him his favorite meal, and massage his back till your thumbs go numb. I don’t think any man can argue with a good meal and a back rub. Whatever you do, don’t get him some couples treatment from a spa. Facials and mud baths are for chicks.

Three Easy Steps to a Successful Valentine’s Day!

Three Easy Steps To A Successful Valentine’s Day

That warm and tender person in your life who hears out your woes and fulfills your needs, deserves a glorious Valentines Celebration. The kind of tender time that is reserved for just the adults and is made up of more than just chocolate and flowers. A Valentine’s Day that is well planned but simple and inviting. This kind of Valentine’s Day requires three elements that must be present in order for comfort, peace and enjoyability to be achieved.

Before you put your elements together, however, be sure to know a few things first. What are your lovers needs and is your partner active or inactive? Needs can be items that your partner wants to replace around the house or it can be more expressive, like replacing a broken ring or gadget. As for having an inactive or active partner, think about whether your lover prefers to lounge around on a day of or let off some energy at a theme park. Beating around the bush won’t help either as you should simply ask whether they want to relax or play on Valentine’s Day.

1. Picking A Great Valentine’s Day Location

The location you pick is very important to a successful Valentines Day. Choosing the right one can be simple if you associate your chosen location with your partner’s personality. Perhaps they are soft and calm and would like a peaceful wine and cheese picnic by the city lake. Picnic-Basket.com has a great selection of wine & cheese sets that are perfect for this choice or perhaps your mate is more of the rough and energetic type that would prefer an activity like a carnival, festival or theme park?

Once you decide on the type of location you want, do a thorough research for something unique within that theme. There are plenty of locations to choose from like spas and resorts for couples, miniature golf, city parks for a great picnic, mountain retreats with picnic thickets, theme parks, beach communities, race tracks, street race performances, opera, college football, plays, professional sports games, concerts, zoos, forests, National Parks and so much more.

When you do decide on an outing with your lover, be sure to be creative with your ride there. Play your partner’s favorite songs and supply them with snacks on the ride. If your partner is showing a desire to spend their Valentines Day indoors, be sure to prepare the areas the two of you will be using. A one-time housekeeper is an excellent way to say "I love you".

2. Choosing The Best Valentine’s Day Activity

Your Valentine’s Day activity will fall right into line when you decide where your location is. If you’ve decided the zoo, park, beach, mountain retreat or a game, a picnic should be in order, so prepare for that. Get a great picnic basket for two and research some picnic recipes. Be sure to choose simple recipes that will stay fresh in a picnic basket. Otherwise, be sure to take a portable cooler with you to dress up your tailgating meal in the parking lot.

If you are taking your partner to a theme park, race track or other outdoor activity, be sure to take a sac or shoulder bag with amenities like sunblock, water, pain reliever, band aids and lip balm with you. Cash is always a good idea at these types of events, as well.

If you plan to pamper your partner at home, be sure it’s clean and inviting. Put as many personal items away as you can and calling a housekeeping service in advance to clean is a great idea and time saver. Place a key under the mat for them if you have to and get it done. You’ll be surprised at how much more relaxing this will make your evening.

Once your home is clean, prepare your partner’s favorites or get some carry out from their favorite restaurant. Buy two or three classic and modern romance or comedy movies that you know your partner will enjoy. Wrap them in red paper and put them out with the food so that they have a selection to choose from. And of course, be creative with giving any other special gifts. Inside pockets, slippers, next to the shower, under pillows, hanging from obvious areas…..be creative!

3. Selecting A Valentine’s Day Gift

Often times people get nervous over the gift choosing because they don’t want to disappoint their lover. Trust your instincts or simply ask. Even if you’re general and comparative in your questions. "Do you want jewelry or a trip somewhere?" "Do you want to be pampered or go see something fun?" "Do you want to sit around or grab some beers somewhere?" When you’ve completely run out of steam on this subject ask your partner’s best friend for advice.

Valentine’s Gifts For Her

Get her a jewelry box and put a gorgeous bracelet inside. If you’re on a budget, get a unique piece from another country online and have it shipped before the big day. If that doesn’t sound right, what about a crystal vase filled with candy and a dozen roses clipped short and placed inside, upright and atop the candy with a large red bow around the neck? She may enjoy a jazz concert or tickets to a show with a girlfriend. Perhaps she enjoys opera or would appreciate movie tickets.

Valentine’s Gifts For Him

Does he participate in any sports? If so pick him up something he can use in his game or a gift card to a sporting good store. If he needs a special place to lounge, get the lazy boy chair or a back massager. Maybe he needs a new tool box or cold weather hat. What about his favorite team? Tickets or even a collection of NFL games on DVD would make him smile. If he’s an electronic guru, get him a fancy cup warmer that plugs into the USB port. Maybe he’d fancy a portable DVD player or a portable grill or some grilling accessories which all make an excellent gift.

Tips for Surprising Her On Valentin’s Day

If she loves the outdoors and you’ve decided on a picnic, tuck her gift inside an exquisite picnic basket from Picnic-Basket.com along with the food and treats. For recipes, whether simple or elaborate, download a copy of Picnic-Basket.com’s Free Picnic Cookbook. With 17 themed sections and over 100 recipes, your sure to find an appropriate dish!

When your Valentine’s Day is restricted to a home environment, or your budget can only cover a nice meal and an invitation to your place, a fancy bath can be the ticket. Fill the tub with plenty of steaming hot water and some fragrant bath oils. Take apart one red rose and gently drop the petals into the water. Dim the lights if you can, or turn them off and light some white candles. Place a small boombox and a couple of his/her favorite CDs nearby. Maybe add their favorite wine and chocolates and a brand new fuzzy, white towel and robe. Mi Amore.

Women are nurturers and sensitive creatures. They often have a fond feeling for art and hand made items because of the time and thought that goes into the gift. So men, get out the markers and the blank cards from the craft store. Tell her how you feel, even if it’s short and informative. "You mean a lot to me. I love your skin and your smile. You make me proud to live my life. I love you." The thoughts don’t have to be complicated. Just hand written and from the heart.

Tips for Surprising Him On Valentine’s Day

Men like simplicity when they are relaxing, active or not and they never want clothing on Valentine’s Day. Stick to what they love. If he’s a tool collector, get him a new one. If you would prefer not to get lost in the sea of warehouse-like store racks, get the gift card and give it to him in a creative way.

If your man is creative or likes video games and electronics, check out the Nintendo DS, the PSP or another game system he may be interested in. Search through the racks at Best Buy and make him really happy this Valentines Day. Choose a game that you would enjoy playing with him, like Tetris, Scrabble, Brain Age or other puzzle games that have been reviewed as "female favorites".

Creativity On Valentine’s Day Earns Extra Points

If you’re giving your lover a gift card, get creative with it! Wrap it several times and hang it somewhere they would see it that morning. Hang it from the ceiling in the shower. Put it on the dash in their car. Slip it in her purse or his wallet, where they are destined to see it at some point in the day. Put it in a gift basket or in a wine carafe, whatever you think will get a smile.

Take a little extra time this year to do some pre-planning so you and your loved one can enjoy the perfect Valentine’s Day celebration!

Unique Bridal Gifts

December 7th, 2009
spa bath mat

With so many gift ideas to choose from it’s hard to find the perfect gift to give the bride on her special day.  Finding gifts that fit into her lifestyle, create special memories and remind her of their new life together will always be greatly appreciated.  Personalized gifts can be tailored specifically toward the happy couple and are a truly unique gift idea that will please even the most discriminating.

When buying gifts for the bride you basically have two gift categories to choose from: buying a gift that is especially for her or buying a gift that will remind her of their new life together.  Which gifts you buy will depend upon your relationship with the bride and on using a unique idea, personalization.  It takes an ordinary gift and turns it into a gift for her only, so no two are ever the same.

All of these gift ideas can be personalized either with engraving, stitching or debossing and depending on the item can include poems, wedding vows, names and dates, initials and a thoughtful card to tell her how proud you are.  Gifts for her include items like:  a weekend getaway with the girls, jewelry, pampering beauty bath set, a shoe bag and sachet box for the big day, a fun wedding survival kit, relaxing candles, oils or incense, an engraved jewelry box or your choice of a single or a dozen roses beautifully preserved in either 24kt, 18kt gold or silver.

The gift ideas that will remind her of her new life can also include items that are personalized for him as well.  Ideas are as follows:  his and hers towels, bathrobes and slippers, red or white crystal wine glasses, mugs, decanter sets and carafes, crystal and glass serving trays, bowls and platters, coasters and serving trays, photo albums and picture frames, an engraved copy of wedding vows or the actual wedding invitation captured forever in crystal or marble, and his and hers just hitched hats, T-shirts, caps, tee’s and sweatshirts.  I also found cotton dinner napkins as well as wine carriers and luggage or garment bags that can be used for both during the wedding and afterwards in their new home.

Of course with all gifts it is best to choose one that will fit into their chosen lifestyle.  Here are some more unique ideas that are usually given by those who know the bride and groom best.  A set of car mats or seat covers for both him and her, a set of matching flasks, a framed copy of the meaning of his and her names, champagne and roses gift package for two, a Don Perignon and Godiva 18 piece signature truffles set or a day at the spa for two. And finally if the couple doesn’t have any honeymoon plans or want to but can’t afford it, a paid honeymoon, weekend getaway or bed and breakfast for two, even a planned romantic weekend filled with dinner, relaxation and a show can be just what the doctor ordered after those sometimes stressful wedding plans.

With all the gift ideas out there it can sometimes be overwhelming to choose the perfect gift for the bride.  I found all of these ideas while looking on the internet and if you’re ever unsure of a company just do a little checking and find a BBB accredited site or return to a website you’ve have favorable experiences with in the past.  You’ll never go wrong giving personalized wedding gifts and whether the gifts are for the bride, groom, parents, guests or the entire wedding party, these unique and stylish gifts will become cherished keepsakes for life.  Happy Shopping :-)

The Budget-conscious 2008 Bathroom

December 2nd, 2009
spa bath mat

If you are thinking of putting your house on the market, it could make a big difference if you take a few weeks to improve it first. It is easy to make a home look more inviting without breaking your budget.

Real estate agents are advising that in today’s realty market, home owners do not get their money back on big reno jobs. Therefore a small reno job is all that is recommended to make your home more attractive to prospective buyers.

Almost all of us can paint the walls, doors and windows in our home. Not only is it an easy job but it is also a cheap job, and it makes a huge amount of difference in a home. The last two years have seen a big change in home decor; color schemes are almost non-existent.

To modernize your home, paint it all in white, pale beige, cream or silver gray. The favorite color scheme is white all over the house with either silver gray or beige trim. This may sound austere to you, but it does suggest a recent decorating job to the prospective buyer.

A bathroom reno can be a quick fix for your home. Do not be tempted to leave the bathroom ceiling unpainted. It may look pristine now, but once the walls are completed, the white of the ceiling will look shabby. Keep a fan running and do it all in one go.

If you are replacing flooring in the bathroom, then choose the bamboo colored wood floor tiles. Choose the same tone in your bathroom storage baskets, to carry the look through. Another sensible option in a bathroom is cork tiling; cork is mildew resistant.

Keeping the humidity out of the bathroom is an important necessity. If you have an ugly fan in your walls or window, think of changing your lighting to include a small attached fan.

The latest trend is to aim for the ’spa-feeling’ in a bathroom, and many interior designers recommend dimmer lights in your bathroom to achieve this. Do you have room for a carefully placed table with magazines, candles and a wine glass?

If you decide not to paint white walls, but you wish to choose a beige or gray tone, buy a small pot of the paint and come home and run a tester. Do this by painting a large square on the wall, say two feet by two feet, and leave it to dry. (Drying makes a big difference to the color.)

The type of lighting you have will also make a big difference, so look at your two by two foot painted sample and decide if you really like the shade. Check it in the morning light, in the evening light and in artificial light.

So far your bathroom renovation has cost very little. If you want to splash out a little, then buy new taps. There are some very unusual designs out there which will give your bathroom the luxury touch.

Once you have painted everything white, it is difficult to resist throwing brightly colored towels and matching bath mats all around. However, to keep your bathroom up to date, keep ‘colors’ out and try natural shades for bath rugs and towels. The neutral colors can look very classy, and in a bathroom it also looks especially clean.

If you have a beige or gray floor, then you could add a silver gray shower curtain and towels and go for white bathroom rugs. The days of the burgundy and pink bathroom are out. The new bathroom will not be a bland white-out, it will be a vision of delicate lightness – and right up to the minute!

To complete the mood, light some scented candles and have some ethereal sounding music playing softly in your new spa.

Bathroom Décor Ideas- a Few Points to Keep in Mind

December 1st, 2009
spa bath mat

Bathroom décor ideas are not normally thought of as the bathroom though is one of the important rooms of the house is most commonly neglected. A lit bit of interest taken for this room would make it classier and a place of relaxation. A little bit of creativity would make bathrooms more attractive. Bathroom décor ideas have to creative and at the same time a lot of thought should be given to the fact that after the decoration the bathroom should be easy to clean or else it will become a big problem.

Summer would be the right season to decorate the bathrooms. Before decorating the bathrooms it is necessary to inspect any leakage and insect infestation. Bathrooms are one of the easiest and less expensive rooms to be decorated. Bathrooms with windows can be decorated with bright colored curtains matching the flooring. If the bathroom has a bathing tub it could also be covered with curtains. Lighting is one important aspect which should also be taken care of. The simple trick of lighting in the bathroom is to go in for task lighting which is not over powering.  A correct match of curtains and light fixtures will make even a simple bathroom to give a spa appearance.

Even small and less expensive items like scented candles, toilet paper holders, shaving and make up mirrors, tooth brush holders, soap dispensers are small items which add glamour to bathroom. Just think of a theme and buy all these accessories related to the theme. People who are adventurous and those who are creative can even go for a mix and match theme for the toilet. Big mirrors give a royal look to the bathrooms. The bathroom mirror should not be larger than the vanity over which it is hung. A good combination of mirror, vanity lighting and a few more bathroom décor ideas would make the bathroom a glamour room.

A bathroom vanity with multiple drawers would provide the storage space for bathroom towels and other bathroom requirements. A new set of colorful bath towels coordinating with the bath mats would produce an immediate brightening effect. Towel bars, hooks and rings are other small accessories which would enhance the appearance of the bathroom. Live plants are always a good decorative choice. The scented candles along with potpourri would give a rich look and good fragrance. Practical items could be used to save space and money. Towels displayed in large baskets and colorful bottles of shampoo, lotions etc would look good. All the above tips would go in well for a budget bathroom. Bathrooms can also be decorated so as to give a spa atmosphere. Spa quality bath tubs, art inspired modern sinks, glass shower enclosures; bathroom faucets all would give a royal look to the bathroom.

Decorating the bathrooms would be real fun and it reveals the character and personal style of the one who did it.  The choice of right accessories and fittings would make the bathroom look not only pleasant but also clean and tidy. Bathroom décor ideas have to be thought about and planned carefully. If you are on a budget, stick to it and use your creativity and imagination to get the look that you want. If money is not a problem, then you can get a professional bathroom designer to come and do the interiors for you. If you need some bathroom décor ideas the net is a great place to find many.

Love is in the air

November 29th, 2009
spa bath mat

Traditions are an important part of everyone’s heritage. They mark special occasions and are often a cause for celebration. Birthdays and anniversaries are celebrated in different ways around the world and can be extremely flamboyant or subdued events. Weddings are celebrated in a variety of ways too, usually following age old traditions according to the religious or cultural background of the two families who are being united. But all around the globe, no matter how the occasion is celebrated, it is a time of great joy and does not usually go unnoticed. Just think of all the weddings you have been invited to over the years. No two were the same, were they? Having said that, there were a few aspects that they all had in common, and giving wedding gifts is still an upheld tradition.

As soon as that wedding invitation falls through the letter box, you start thinking about wedding gifts, and it is getting more and more difficult to find something suitable to give, especially as so many couples may live together before tying the knot. Indeed, both of them will probably no longer be living in their parents’ home but will have set up home for themselves a while ago, perhaps when they went to university or when they left school and got their first job. So, most couples have already acquired the domestic items that they need to make a house a home. Where does that leave you? I expect you are staring at the wedding gifts list right now, feeling uninspired and at a loss for a bright idea to make the lucky couple smile.

A personalised wedding gift has that little extra thoughtful touch about it. If they are the couple who already have everything, then they certainly won’t have that something with the addition of a loving message from you. They may well have a door mat for their little love nest, but does it have their new joint names sprawled across it? A personalised door mat is a wedding gift that will not only impress the bride and groom, but all those visitors that they plan to invite around to their new abode when the dust has eventually settled. The message could be simply one of welcome from the new Mr and Mrs or even something more quirky and amusing; either way, this lovely wedding gift will be unlike anything else that they are expecting to receive on the big day.

You may have noticed that on the wedding gifts list presented to you and the other guests there is always a mention of towels. A Newly Weds Bathroom Bundle addresses all their needs, with a selection of bath towels, hand towels and face cloths in pure white 100% cotton. These beautiful wedding gifts are lavishly decorated and attractively presented especially as a wedding cake. This is a wedding gift that they well both find a delight as well as extremely useful, especially on the honey moon. The added bonus of a pair of flip flops will make them smile. This special wedding gift footwear leaves a ‘just married’ footprint for all to see.

If you would like to give the bride and groom an experience day for two as their wedding gifts, but cannot decide which one they would most enjoy, why not leave the choice to them. This is a wonderful idea for a wedding gift, giving the happy couple the chance of spending some quality time together doing something that they both enjoy. They could opt for a pampering session in a spa and take the opportunity to unwind and relax after the pressure of wedding plans is just a dim and distant memory. This option includes a day pass in a Living Well health and leisure club as well. Or they could improve their cooking skills together with a cookery demonstration and lovely meal for two. This way they can impress each other with their new found kitchen talents for years to come. A really fascinating and practical experience day wedding gift is an interior design session, where the couple can learn ways to approach the design of their new abode. Armed with this information they will develop an eye for interior design and will thank you for this inspirational wedding gift. Maybe they will select the chance to experience an open air concert, including a VIP pass which will enable the bride and groom to access the best area possible, with this versatile wedding gift. The choice is theirs, and they will have the experience day that they truly wish for.

When it comes to wrapping the lovely wedding gifts that you have settled on, finishing touches and presentation are so important. To make your wedding gifts look really special; fabulous Bling Bling Satin Ribbon in passionate purple will look stunning and will make your wedding gifts stand out in the crowd.
